About the School
Swarasadhana - from swara, the musical note, and sadhana, dedicated practice - is a school of Hindustani classical music where the age-old guru-shishya tradition meets careful, methodical training.
The school is led by Shri. Chandramouli Rao, a Hindustani vocalist and violinist with over 30 years of learning and teaching. His own journey carries a rich lineage: violin under Pt. J. L. Kashinath Sastry and later the flute maestro Pt. K. P. Shenoy of Dharwad, and the gayaki-ang under the celebrated Dr. N. Rajam. Having earlier run the Swarsangeet institute in California, USA, he now brings that experience to students here.
At Swarasadhana, music is taught from the ground up. Through scores of alankars (paltas), students learn to sing from their own inner voice rather than by imitation - building a foundation strong enough to carry a lifetime of music. Both vocal and violin are taught, for students at every stage of their journey.

One of the rare musicians equally at home on the violin and in vocal music, Shri. Chandramouli Rao is the guiding force behind Swarasadhana. His art is rooted in the gayaki-ang - the singing style carried onto the violin - and over the last fifteen years he has shaped a distinctive vocal method of his own. Warm yet exacting, he is known for the patience with which he teaches beginners and advanced students alike, drawing out each student's own voice one note at a time in the true guru-shishya spirit.
